Where did my printer go? NB.

printer-problem-2

Have you ever seen these boxes when you try to print with a printer that was there 5 minutes ago and that your computer admits, via its system preferences, is already installed? It looks like I - we -are not alone.

I haven’t seen any definitive answers as to what is causing it but I know how to fix it! The problem seems to come about after fiddling with the soft proof settings and that is where we must return to get things going again (View>Proof Set Up>Custom). If a custom soft proof hasn’t been set up properly (or abandoned half way through because well… it wasn’t appearing on the list) there is a pretty good chance that these infuriating boxes will show up.

Just go back to Proof Set Up >Custom and ensure that Custom rather than Untitled appears in the Custom Proof Condition dialogue box. If that doesn’t sort it straight away, just keep trying to Save under the Custom option. I’ve “jammed” and “unjammed” it several times now and am confident that this is the root of the problem. Quite why I’m not getting my custom proofs to appear on the list is another matter…
